Dr. Nina Bednarsek

Senior Scientist

Nina is a Senior Scientist in the Biogeochemistry Department who specializes in the development of biologically relevant thresholds for interpreting ocean acidification data and the impacts on pelagic calcifiers known as pteropods. Her research efforts focus on determining biological thresholds for a variety of organisms exposed to the combined effect of ocean acidification and hypoxia in the Southern California Bight, as well as along the entire U.S. West Coast, up to the Arctic.

She received her Ph.D. in biological oceanography from the University of East Anglia (U.K.), her M.S. in environmental diagnostics from Cranfield University (U.K.), and her B.S. in microbiology from the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). She joined SCCWRP in 2017.
